Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Marcus Mariota in, Allen Robinson out
By Ryan Heckman
With all of the rumors regarding the Chicago Bears and a future quarterback, Marcus Mariota may very well end up being the guy.
Is that what Bears fans wanted all along? For most, no, he’s not the guy they wanted. However, Mariota is certainly a move that makes sense for Ryan Pace.
The Las Vegas Raiders were listening to offers for Mariota, but the latest chatter has them releasing Mariota in the end due to his contract spiking if he plays all of 2021. If the Bears were to give up anything of merit for Mariota, and then have to pay him an even bigger chunk in 2021, it wouldn’t make much sense.
If and when the Raiders ultimately release Mariota, the Bears could sign him for a fairly insignificant contract to come in and compete with Nick Foles for the starting job. From what we saw out of Mariota in his one game last year, the guy can still play in this league.
Adding a mobile, motivated Mariota who has at one point been a pretty electric player in this league wouldn’t be the worst option at quarterback for the Bears.
However, for the sake of this specific mock draft we have coming up, Mariota will have to get it done without the services of Allen Robinson. Things have continued to worsen in Robinson’s eyes, with the Bears having not communicated with the star receiver since last September.
If Robinson is given the franchise tag, the latest report says he will not play under it. So, he may end up being allowed to walk or, at least, the Bears could find a trade partner for him.
Not having Robinson would hurt big time, and Mariota would then need a number one receiver in a hurry. With those things in mind, let’s get to this mock.
