Chicago Bears risk it all in these aggressive Russell Wilson trades
By Ryan Heckman
3. The Chicago Bears trade two integral pieces for Russell Wilson
The last trade package is an interesting one, and really attacks a current need for the Seahawks. Seattle’s starting running back for the last couple of years, Chris Carson, may not be back with the team next season. Carson is a free agent.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks may have to bank on a former first rounder in Rashaad Penny coming back from a major injury and stepping into a key role. Seattle also had Carlos Hyde last season, but there is no assurance he will be back.
This trade features Chicago parting with the NFL’s sixth-leading rusher from a year ago in David Montgomery. While it would hurt to see Montgomery leave, one has to remember: this is for a no-doubt, sure fire Hall of Fame quarterback. Keep breathing.
Along with Montgomery, the Seahawks would get cornerback Kyle Fuller, which would help the Bears absorb some of the salary from Wilson. Fuller’s absence marks the beginning of Jaylon Johnson becoming the team’s top cornerback.
Lastly, the Bears give up this year’s first rounder, next year’s first rounder and a third rounder in 2022. It’s a lot, but the possibility to strike gold with Wilson under center is well-worth just about anything Seattle could ask for.
