Chicago Bears 2021 Free Agency: Top five safety targets
By Ryan Heckman
Chicago Bears top free agency safety targets: Tashaun Gipson
When the Bears signed Tashaun Gipson to a 1-year deal last year, the move was more of an afterthought. It happened after the first couple of major waves of free agency when he was cut by the Houston Texans.
Last year, Gipson quietly had a strong season. He tallied 66 total tackles — the second-most of his career that began back in 2012. Gipson also came up with seven passes defensed, a pair of picks and a fumble recovery.

One of the best things you can say about Gipson is that he’s been extremely durable over his career. He played in all 16 games last year for Chicago, something he’s done five times in the NFL.
Keeping Gipson around is not out of the question. In fact, it’s more likely than going out and signing a different free agent replacement. Remember, the Bears want to form continuity. They can’t keep going out and finding a new starter every other year. Gipson is 30 years, and by the looks of his play, he’s got a few years left in him.
If Chicago wanted to again go a cheaper route, and a smart route, they would seriously consider re-signing Gipson.
