This is a pick which signals, more than ever, that the 2021 Draft will be all about surrounding Lance with as much talent as possible on offense. That is priority number one.

David Montgomery is the Bears’ unquestioned starter for 2021. He’s the primary back for the next couple of years, if not more. But, adding another running back to the fold should be an offseason priority as well.

It’s times like last year, when Tarik Cohen went down to injury, that Bears fans saw the need for another running back as apparent as ever. Chicago didn’t even have a prototypical back behind Montgomery to begin with, as Cohen is more of a versatile weapon and punt returner.

Finding Trey Sermon in the fourth round is as valuable a pick as the Bears could ask for. The two-headed monster of Montgomery and Sermon, with Cohen sprinkled in, would be a sight to see.

Thanks to a great later season showing, Sermon solidified his NFL draft stock. He ran right through the Michigan State defense in Game 5, going for 112 yards. He followed that performance up with a ridiculous 331 yards against Northwestern, plus an additional 193 yards in a win over Clemson.

Sermon is a prototypical running back who runs with physicality and gains chunk yardage. He would give the Bears another option on the goal line, but more than anything, he’d allow the Bears to have a highly dynamic duo similar to the Cleveland Browns. This is as valuable a pick as you can get in the fourth round.
