Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. QB. Trey Lance. player. North Dakota State. 1. 57

This offseason has to be about the quarterback, first and foremost. If Ryan Pace thinks he is going to roll Nick Foles out there in Week 1, and things are going to magically get better, he is sadly mistaken.

Round 1 is where the position should be addressed. Get it out of the way. Get it done, and then focus elsewhere. At pick number 20, the Bears may not have a shot to get their hands on one of the top four quarterback prospects in this draft.

With that in mind, trading up a few spots with the New England Patriots makes too much sense. The Patriots are historically active throughout the draft, so they’re a perfect trade partner.

Bears receive: Pick 15

Patriots receive: Pick 20, 2022 2nd Round Pick

With Trey Lance not playing more than a game in the last year and a half, he’s the one quarterback who could fall a little bit. He’s also the one quarterback no one is sure about where exactly he will go. He’s a first rounder, no doubt. But, is he a top 10 pick? Top 15?

Every year, a quarterback falls. This year, odds are it will be Lance who falls, and it will be to the Bears’ benefit. The dual-threat FCS star dominated college competition and comes to the NFL as a pretty raw talent. However, the skill set is there. He possesses all the core features you want to see in a pro quarterback in 2021.

Adding Lance is the first step. Secondly, now, the Bears have to continue surrounding him with talent. This is only trade number one. Now, it’s go time.
