Chicago Bears replacements for Anthony Miller: Trent Taylor

The San Francisco 49ers have one of the better slot wide receivers in the NFL when Deebo Samuel is healthy, but that’s been the story for this receiving core: health. Last season, the 49ers struggled mightily with keeping all of their wideouts healthy and on the field at the same time.

One of the guys who has filled in when Samuel can’t go is former fifth-round pick Trent Taylor. The Louisiana Tech product is a smaller receiver, standing just 5-foot-8, but operates well in the slot when given the opportunity.

In three seasons with San Francisco, Taylor has caught 79 passes for 731 yards and three touchdowns. He has never been a full-time starter, and likely never will be with the 49ers. As long as they have Samuel, then Taylor will be riding the bench.

Last year, in particular, Taylor’s season came to an early halt after he tore his ACL in Week 12. This came after missing the 2019 season with a foot injury. The ACL injury will make it a bit more difficult for him to garner much attention via free agency, but that could help the Bears.

If Taylor ends up being healthy and ready to go by Week 1 (which he should), then he’s worth looking at. He would come very cheap, but he’s also a very capable slot guy.
