Chicago Bulls: 3 possible trade packages for Andre Drummond
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bulls could match salaries evenly in this first deal for Andre Drummond
This first trade scenario sees the Bulls and Cavaliers make a fairly even swap. In order to match up with Drummond’s $28 million salary, the Bulls would send Otto Porter’s $28 million salary to the Cavaliers. It’s a no-brainer on the Bulls’ part.
In addition to trading Porter to Cleveland, the Bulls would send a 2021 first-round pick. However, it would be a lottery-protected pick. If the Bulls were to get a boost from Drummond and make a playoff push, then that pick would end up going to the Cavs. However, if they failed to make a postseason push, they’d keep the pick.
Porter has not done a whole lot for the Bulls this year, and he’s included in this deal mostly just to get something done. If the Cavs want to avoid buying Drummond out and simply just get something in return, that’s where this deal makes sense. Drummond’s trade market could end up being nothing, after all, which would mean Cleveland does him a favor and buys him out.
This deal could end up being both good and bad for the Bulls. So far, they have shown that they can be competitive. With Drummond, they could take a step forward and inch into the playoffs. Losing that first-round pick would be a bummer, but if they can then extend Drummond knowing he fit well, then it’s a win.
