Le’Veon Bell gives the Chicago Bears an improved backup running back

When the Kansas City Chiefs signed Le’Veon Bell last year, most thought it would equate to an unfair advantage for their offense. However, Bell truly did take a back seat to rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

More from Da Windy City

After coming to Kansas City, Bell rushed 63 times for 254 yards and a pair of scores in nine games. He also caught 13 passes for 99 yards. On an offense with so much firepower, Bell did not need to do a whole lot. But, he was there as just another weapon and an insurance policy in case the first-round rookie went down.

Last year, there were still a few runs which made you realize Bell had some left in the tank. One thing that doesn’t fade away in a guy like him is his vision and patience. It’s interesting because David Montgomery seems to have a little bit of Bell’s style in him at times. The patience is certainly there.

If Bell came to Chicago, we could finally put the Cordarrelle Patterson experience to rest. Patterson is best suited as a special teams ace, and not a backup running back. Bell could easily give the team 6-10 touches per game and provide Montgomery with a little rest here and there.

If he came on a cheaper deal, there’s no reason why Bell wouldn’t work in Chicago.
