Early in the year, we were all very hard on the Chicago Blackhawks. They kept getting smoked and giving up five goals or more so it was hard to blame anyone for legit thinking that this could be the worst team in the league. Since those first few games, they have shown that they aren’t even close to the worst team in the league. In fact, they might even be a good team. After the way they have played over the past little stretch, there is no reason to be proud and excited.

The Chicago Blackhawks had a very good showing against the Dallas Stars.

On Super Bowl Sunday, the Blackhawks played a very tough game against Dallas. They defeated them in overtime by a score of 2-1. Alex DeBrincat scored both of Chicago’s goals in the win. Both of his goals were assisted by Patrick Kane. Malcolm Subban made 30 saves on 31 shots. It was the perfect appetizer for Chicago before the big football game that followed.

It was going to be hard to do that again but they sure did. They played them again on Tuesday night and earned the same 2-1 overtime win. It was Kevin Lankinen in net this time and he played just as well. He is for sure the new number one goalie of the Hawks. It was a huge win for a team that is really playing well.

Guess what? Jeremy Colliton is the lead dog for the Jack Adams award as the coach of the year. He has these guys playing so hard every single game. They are not the most talented team on the ice most nights but they are the most hard-working. The Dallas Stars came into this with a good record and they were in the 2020 Stanley Cup Final. How the Hawks have played over the past few days is something to be proud of for them.

Another reflection of the coach is the play of the youngsters. They have given all of their young guys a fair amount of ice and they have taken full advantage. Guys like Pius Suter, Mattias Janmark, and Philipp Kurashev have all been awesome in addition to the other young guys that we already know a lot about. If this continues, along with the depth players working their tails off, this team is going to continue to earn points in the standings.

The Hawks have the Columbus Blue Jackets again Thursday night. It is the first of two games against them in Chicago. The last time these two teams met, they caught them at a weird time as they were going through a blockbuster trade. Things may or may not be better for them yet but the Hawks need to continue battling. If they do that, they have a chance to keep this train rolling.
