Chicago Bears: These Carson Wentz trades make the most sense
By Ryan Heckman
The first trade sees the Chicago Bears landing Carson Wentz in a trade including nothing else but picks
There have been a lot of rumors, reports and opinions on what the Eagles are looking for in return for a Wentz trade. The fact of the matter is, trading for Wentz’s contract alone is a tough pill to swallow. His cap hit this year, alone, is $34.6 million and continues in the 30-millions for four seasons.
One has to wonder why this Wentz deal isn’t viewed the same as the Jared Goff contract, which the Lions ended up receiving two first-round picks to absorb. Still, most reports have the Eagles looking for at least one first rounder in a Wentz deal.
In this trade, the Bears send the no. 20 pick from this year’s draft and a second rounder next year in exchange for Wentz and a third-round pick this year. Quite honestly, this is one of the best-case scenarios for the Bears in acquiring Wentz.
Something tells me that Pace will end up netting a pick in return if he trades for Wentz. Looking back at the Khalil Mack trade, Pace was still able to get a second-round pick along with Mack. That was pretty impressive, considering he was trading for arguably the most dominant pass rusher in football.
So, the Bears no longer have a pick in the first round this year, but they keep their second-round selection and then have two in the third. If they’re going all-in on Wentz, at least they’re not giving up multiple firsts in this deal.
