Chicago Bears deal Khalil Mack in these wild trade scenarios
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears go all-in on a franchise quarterback in this Khalil Mack trade
The Cincinnati Bengals landed their franchise quarterback in last year’s draft when they selected LSU’s Joe Burrow first overall. Now, they’ll have to wait a little while to get him back after he tore up his knee as a rookie. While he’s expected to return healthy at some point, the Bengals continue loading up in a trade like this.
First off, any defense that is able to add Mack is immediately a better unit. Cincinnati hasn’t had a top-10 defense for several years now, but this would get them headed back in that direction in a hurry.
The Bears would deal Mack, along with their first rounder this year and next year, in order to land one lone pick — the no. 5 selection this year. That fifth overall pick would more than likely turn into one of the top three quarterbacks in this year’s draft.
The only thing that could throw a severe wrench into things is if Lawrence, Fields and Wilson went in the top four picks. At that point, the Bears are left dead in the water and will have to overpay for a quarterback like Lance. That wouldn’t be a horrible scenario, as Lance is still a strong pick and a sure fire first-round pick. But, at no. 5 overall, it’s a little bit of a reach.
Ideally, the first four picks include Lawrence, Penei Sewell, Micah Parsons and one of Fields or Wilson. You could make an argument for another player like Devonta Smith or a couple others. But, the perfect situation would be for Wilson or Fields to be available at no. 5. If they were, the Bears come out as a winner here.
