The Chicago Bears are in the market for a quarterback this offseason and perhaps Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz could be an option. According to a recent report, teams have been aggressively pursuing a trade for Wentz and a deal could be imminent.

Could the Chicago Bears be one of the teams that have been checking in recently on Wentz’s availability? It is certainly possible, if not likely, though it may not be the best idea for the future of the franchise.

However, as we pointed out recently, general manager Ryan Pace will almost assuredly overpay for a signal-caller this offseason because he is desperate and his job is on the line.

So what about these reports of a deal being imminent? Well, it depends on who you talk to (or perhaps listen to).

Dan Patrick reported on his show that according to a source he spoke to, no teams have actually called the Eagles about a trade and that the reports could simply be a way for the Eagles to drum up some interest.

Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network quickly shot down that report as false, claiming he and Ian Rapoport have spoken to multiple teams outside of the Eagles who have apparently called about trading for Wentz.

Furthermore, Eagles beat reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks tweeted out today that “a trade seems like it could happen very soon.”

Now there has not been a definitive report linking the Bears to Wentz, or alleging they are one of the teams that have called the Eagles about his availability, but you have to assume they have. Considering Pace’s desperation, and head coach Matt Nagy’s familiarity with Wentz, as well as his familiarity with the style of offense Nagy prefers to run, it would be shocking if Pace hasn’t already inquired.

That doesn’t necessarily mean it would be the right decision, as there are significant questions around his durability, his regression in 2020, and of course, the monstrous contract extension he signed that would be difficult for a cash strapped organization like the Bears to swallow (even if they have swallowed mediocrity for decades).

Next. Was Kyle Long taking a shot at Ryan Pace?. dark

In any event, the rumors are flying and it appears there is a very good chance we’ll hear about a new home for Wentz in the very near future. Will it be in the Windy City? Stay tuned…
