The unimaginable would absolutely net the Chicago Bears a franchise quarterback

Whether it’s the scheme, playing with an undisclosed injury for an entire season or another reason, Khalil Mack has not given the Bears the sack production they would like to see from him. Still, Pro Football Focus ranks him as one of the top pass rushers in football — as he should be. Mack has still been extremely disruptive against both the passing and run game.

He is still a top-5 defensive player in the NFL, and a trade would treat him as such. It seems absolutely crazy, but at this point, remember that the offense is in far worse shape than the defense. You have to score points in today’s NFL, no matter how great your defense is. Just look at the two Super Bowl offenses this year.

Replacing Mack would be impossible. The Bears won’t be able to do that. But, what they will be able to do if they traded him, is afford to land a franchise quarterback.

If the Bears traded Mack, they would certainly fetch two first-round picks in exchange, at a minimum. Think of a package including two first rounders, a fifth and a seventh in exchange for Mack. That could do it.

From there, the Bears would have plenty of ammo to go up and get a quarterback. For example, what if a team like the Cincinnati Bengals traded a package including the fifth overall pick in this year’s draft for Mack? That fifth pick could equal a future franchise quarterback for the Bears, plus a few extra picks to use.

Must Read. Bears should consider all of these QB options. light

It would sting, but it’s not going to kill the Bears. Fixing the quarterback position should be something they’re willing to do at all costs this offseason, even if it means trading Mack.
