Buster Skrine has been fairly steady for the Chicago Bears, but they could afford to deal him

Depending on the exact scheme of Sean Desai, the Bears may be able to get by with starting a guy like Duke Shelley in the slot, if not finding another option to compete with him in the draft.

Buster Skrine is still a recognizable name around the league and is an above-average slot cornerback. He plays aggressive (too aggressive sometimes). But, he is a physical guy who has no problem coming up and helping in the run game.

The Bears are taking a cap hit of just over $6 million for Skrine this coming season, so clearing up that kind of room would help tremendously. Think of putting that money towards a new deal for Allen Robinson. The offense is in a much worse spot than the defense right now, and bringing back Robinson should be second on the priority list, only beneath finding a quarterback.

There is a good chance the Bears could deal Skrine for a fifth or sixth rounder to the right team. Again, like the Leno trade, this would be about finding one more extra pick to either use or throw in on a deal of greater importance. More than anything, freeing up some cap space is the biggest part of this deal.
