The Knicks fork over a pair of first rounders to land the Chicago Bulls star

This second trade is pretty straight forward. The Knicks can afford to take on LaVine without sending a player back to the Bulls in return, so they do just that. In order to get him, though, the Knicks send Chicago two first-round picks.

With the way NBA trades have gone down over the last couple of years, LaVine will cost a good amount. There’s no denying the fact that he’s been playing at an All Star level this year (and even last season). News flash: All Star talent costs a lot via trade.

The Bulls now have two firsts in two of the next three drafts (teams cannot trade consecutive first rounders due to league rules). Sure, the Knicks are playing pretty well this year — well enough to compete for a playoff spot currently.

But, there’s no telling just how the next couple of seasons could go. Who knows, maybe the Knicks continue to be mediocre at best, and the Bulls end up with some pretty strong first-round picks coming from New York. If that’s the case, they now have ammunition to move up in a future draft by packaging multiple firsts if they wanted to go up and get a superstar-level rookie.
