Chicago Cubs: Three free agent starting pitchers to consider
With the way the Chicago Cubs are going right now, it is probably a good idea to consider all of their options. Kyle Hendricks, Trevor Williams, Alec Mills, and Adbert Alzolay are probably their top four right now but we don’t know how effective those are going to be. If they are looking to have as many good options as possible with their rotation, Chase Anderson might be one to consider.
Anderson spent the first two years of his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He then spent the next four in the National League Central with the Milwaukee Brewers. In 2020, he spent one season with the Toronto Blue Jays. He did not have a very good year with Toronto but it was the short COVID-19 60 game season. His numbers were much worse than his career averages but there is no saying whether or not he will get better.
For the Cubs, taking a risk on a guy like this would work. They wouldn’t sign him to anything more than a one year deal so it could also be one of those low risk/high reward type deals. If he came over to the Cubs, they could give him every opportunity to eat innings and make an impact. If it didn’t work out, he wouldn’t be so hard to not use because he wouldn’t be expensive. Giving themselves as many options as possible is the best move possible.
