The Chicago Cubs could use another boost in their starting rotation. Trevor Williams is a good addition but they need more to go with what they currently have. Mike Foltynewicz is a local kid who would probably enjoy coming back to Illinois to play. He is from Minooka, Illinois so this would be an opportunity to get his career back on track in his home state.

Foltynewicz was an all-star for the Atlanta Braves in 2018 and he came in 9th place for the American League Cy Young. Things weren’t as good for him in 2019 but the Braves completely cut ties with him in 2020 after one really bad start. He has a lot of work to do before he gets back to the MLB on a full-time basis but he might be able to. He is only 29 years old so it isn’t like he is past his prime.

If the Cubs are able to get Foltynewicz on a cheap deal that could allow him to play in the MLB or AAA, that would be worth it. He is a wildly talented guy that has just fallen on hard times. He may or may not make a comeback but giving him a chance is a low risk/high reward move. The Cubs rotation could end up benefiting from adding a guy like this to the back end of it.
