. SP. Philadelphia Phillies. Jake Arrieta. 49. player. 6

The Chicago Cubs and Jake Arrieta make sense for the obvious reasons. He is one of the most notable players in the history of the franchise. He came in as a throw-in piece along with Pedro Strop in the trade that sent Steve Clevinger and Scott Feldman to the Baltimore Orioles. Instead of being an okay player or even someone who never made it, he had one of the greatest runs this team has ever seen from an individual player.

Most people would say that Jon Lester was the ace of those deep playoff run Cubs teams but Jake Arrieta was the guy for about two years. Then, they let him walk in free agency in favor of signing Yu Darvish. Now that they traded Darvish, it would make sense to look into bringing back Arrieta. He isn’t the pitcher that he once was but he is certainly an upgrade over some of the guys on the current Cubs depth chart.

In his tenure with the Philadelphia Phillies, things probably didn’t go the way he or they thought. It is also proof that the Phillies just don’t do a good job of providing their stars depth. They signed Bryce Harper to one of the biggest contracts in MLB history and have done nothing to take advantage of having him. Now, Arrieta is going to move on and there is no better team for him at this point in his career than the Cubs.
