Bulls and Pelicans Swap PG rooms

I don’t LOVE this trade, but I really don’t hate it. I can’t say no to it.

Ball has been in trade rumors seemingly since his career began, but he hasn’t had to right coach to realize his potential. Billy Donovan could be that guy for Ball and vis versa.

His shooting has been dreadful this year, but Ball always plays solid defense and has shown flashes of his great playmaking ability and athleticism.

More from Da Windy City

Kirla Lewis Jr., the rookie combo guard out of Alabama, shot up draft boards just before Draft Night 2020 but hasn’t had the opportunity to play much with New Orleans because of Lonzo Ball and Eric Bledsoe being ahead of him in the rotation.

In Chicago, Lewis could be what Coby White was last year off the bench but with a little extra flare of playmaking thrown in.

The 13th overall pick is lightning quick and has shooting ability, though it has yet to show up. Donovan could work with him from scratch and he could replace Lonzo if the Bulls choose to let him walk.

White gives New Orleans something that Ball couldn’t on a consistent basis: long-range shooting. Both White and Satoransky are better shooters than the players the Pelicans are sending out. Coby would also be playing alongside Bledsoe as an off-ball guard, where he can just focus on scoring.

Sato gives the pelicans a punch off the bench, acting as a minority scorer and veteran ball-handler. The Bulls give up a future draft pick, but hopefully, it will fall outside of the lottery by the time 2023 rolls around.
