The reality of the Chicago Bears landing Deshaun Watson in a trade from the Houston Texans is a strong possibility.

When FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reported that the Bears would be significant players in the quarterback market this offseason just a few days ago, many fans rolled their eyes with an attitude of, “I’ll believe it when I see it.”

However, Thursday, things have actually started to come into focus in terms of how aggressive Ryan Pace is going to be.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Texans have received calls from multiple teams on Watson already, including the Bears.

Watson officially requested a trade from Houston on Thursday, as Rapoport also reported. As many had assumed for weeks, Watson finally made his desires known in a formal request.

Watson has a no-trade clause within the contract he signed just last year, so he would have to approve any deal agreed upon. Would he agree to be dealt to Chicago?

Let’s look at the facts.

Watson would come into a team featuring the likes of Khalil Mack, Akiem Hicks, Eddie Jackson, Roquan Smith and Kyle Fuller on defense.

Offensively, he has a top-10 rusher from 2020 going into his third year, David Montgomery. He’s got a budding young receiver in Darnell Mooney, who may or may not be lining up opposite Allen Robinson, if he returns to Chicago.

Watson landing in Chicago would certainly help the chances of Robinson re-signing with the Bears. Of course, Chicago would have to do some serious movement within their cap situation to make both of those deals work.

What would it take to get Watson in a Bears uniform? The consensus here is that Houston is looking for a minimum of two first-round picks, plus additional capital or assets. There are a few ways the Bears could land Watson, and all of them would require quite a haul given up.

Adding Watson to this Bears team would make them immediate Super Bowl contenders, especially considering the quarterback would be wanting to play for Chicago. He would have to have a desire to play for the Bears — and that would speak volumes.

This could be Pace’s last chance to make things right at the quarterback position after failing three times in the past six years. Furthermore, he’d be giving Matt Nagy absolutely everything he needs to get this offense going in his fourth year as head coach.
