Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Great value found with players who opted out
By Ryan Heckman
With their final pick in the draft, the Bears go after a defensive back who could end up providing a little versatility for their secondary. Aaron Robinson is a 5-foot-11 corner who projects best as either a slot cornerback or even a safety.
Because of his willingness to step up and help stuff the run game, Robinson could see some success in switching over to strong safety or a nickel corner. He has a tougher time lining up one on one in coverage on the outside, and doesn’t have the most fluid body movement throughout his base. Because of that, he’ll get beat if placed on a receiver in single coverage.
However, when it comes to everything around the line of scrimmage and within the box, Robinson is highly instinctive and possesses quick feet. He’ll swarm to the football in a hurry after diagnosing a play.
Robinson has pretty impressive ball skills, too, coming up with 15 passes defensed over the last two seasons combined. He’s also found himself in the back field occasionally, totaling 5.5 tackles for loss between 2019-2020.
The Bears can use some fresh depth at safety, with a revolving door there next to Eddie Jackson since Adrian Amos left town. Snagging Robinson gives them a guy who could take some time, but at the very least Chicago would hope they landed a long-time, solid backup.
