Jared Goff is very similar to the other two players mentioned here. He was the number one overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft so the pressure has certainly been heightened compared to most players and you can argue he hasn’t lived up to it. On the surface, it feels that way but when you really think about it and look at the numbers, he has lived up to it in a lot of ways. When a guy is the number one overall pick people expect them to be Tom Brady or Joe Montana but it is unrealistic.

He has been a Pro Bowl quarterback twice and has a Super Bowl appearance. He lost the Super Bowl in a very close game to the New England Patriots. If Goff would have won that Super Bowl, people would have credited their awesome defense more than him. That is fair because that defense was awesome, but being an NFC winning quarterback is no joke. He has done that as many times as Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees.

The fact that a team with a really good defense was able to reach the Super Bowl with Goff assays a lot about this whole topic. The Bears could have a really good defense in 2021 if they play their cards right. Part of playing their cards right is making sure their offense relieves the defense. If they added a guy like Goff, that could happen.

We don’t know exactly where the Bears will go with this but we can be certain they will do their due diligence. If they looked at one of these west coast quarterbacks, they might find just what they need in order to become a contender again in the NFC.
