Bears: Three west coast quarterbacks that might be available
The Chicago Bears obviously need help at the position and nothing should be ruled out. It especially shouldn’t be ruled out to want a guy who was once coveted by Bill Belichick. He drafted Jimmy Garoppolo to the New England Patriots and Tom Brady’s greatness pushed Belichick to trade him a few years later. He went to the San Francisco 49ers and has been very successful when he isn’t hurt.
Some people don’t think he is all that but you can’t argue with a career record of 24-8. He has completed 67.5 percent of his passes during his career and has 51 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. He also, as a backup, is a two time Super Bowl champion. He didn’t play in either of those wins but he has played in a Super Bowl. He was the losing quarterback in Super Bowl LIV, as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the 49ers by a score of 31-20.
Garoppolo might not be a superstar but he is a proven winner. As a starter (and even as a backup), winning seems to follow him. That kind of experience would really help this Bears team get over the hump, as long as he played well and stayed healthy. There might also be extra motivation for him as he is a native of Arlington Heights, Illinois. He went to college at Eastern Illinois University. It would be really cool to see a hometown boy come home and lead the Bears to greatness.
