Chicago Bulls: The narrative has quickly changed about this team
By Usayd Koshul
Heading into the 2020-21 NBA season, there was clearly optimism surrounding the Chicago Bulls and for good reason too. Owner Jerry Reinsdorf had finally decided enough was enough and made the decision to move on from Gar Forman, John Paxson, and Jim Boylen. Now, Chicago is led by Marc Eversley, Billy Donovan, and Arturas Karnisovas.
17 games into the new league campaign and Chicago is currently in 11th place in the Eastern Conference and while they’re just three games away from the eighth seed, it’s clear that this year’s Bulls are going to be different.
The fanbase is clearly more optimistic regarding the direction of the franchise under the leadership of Donovan, Karnisovas, and Eversley. Yet just a month ago, when the Bulls started the season 0-3, many fans began to question if these were the same old Bulls many are accustomed to seeing.
The narrative regarding the Chicago Bulls has quickly changed over the last few weeks.
The point here is this: After Chicago’s poor start, many on social media clearly had mixed feelings towards the Bulls. Yet over the last few week weeks, Chicago has developed into one of the most exciting teams to watch in the NBA.
Point Guard Coby White and shooting guard Zach LaVine are quickly becoming a duo that the Bulls can build around. Under the coaching of Donovan, LaVine is averaging a career-high 27.0 points per game. White has also started a total of 17 games this season and can be considered to have a quiet, yet successful season, averaging 15.2 points per game and 5.6 assists.
While there was a point in the season where the Bulls did lose four straight games, Chicago lost those four games by a total of 11 points. Essentially, Chicago has been competitive throughout the entire season and what is being built is clearly showing.
Looking ahead, is there still a lot of work that needs to be done? Sure. However, there is still a lot of basketball that is left to be played. With the competitive nature that the Bulls have, it’s clear that this is a team that can sneak into the playoffs and then potentially play spoiler.
Overall, it’s an exciting time for the Bulls right now. The optimism surrounding the future of the Bulls is at an all-time and while Chicago may be flying under the radar for some, the Bulls are clearly a team that’s on the rise and their progress should be exciting to monitor over the next few weeks.
