If you were a Chicago Bears fan watching the NFC Championship game on Sunday afternoon, you likely experienced a range of emotions. From happy to anxious to happy once again. Certainly, the outcome of the Green Bay Packers’ loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was something every Bears fan wanted.

With Green Bay wasting another year of Aaron Rodgers career, the easy option for a team that just made two NFC Championship games would be to run it back with Rodgers in 2021 right? Think again. Turns out that Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers isn’t exactly sure about his future either.

There is one aspect of Rodgers’ comments to understand here. First, Rodgers could be hinting at the fact that the Packers are ready to move on from him during the 2021 offseason. Second, he could be saying that the Packers management will take the next few weeks to reflect on the 2020 season and then talk to Packers head coach Matt LaFleur about the future of Rodgers with the organization.

Drafting a quarterback in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft isn’t necessarily an option for the Packers, considering they already drafted Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

While Love didn’t start a game in 2020, there is no doubt that the organization views him as Rodgers’ eventual successor, otherwise, why pull the trigger on him?

Is the Chicago Bears’ biggest enemy leaving Green Bay?

Rodgers comments also come just minutes after watching 43-year old Tom Brady advance to his 10th Super Bowl. He has to at least be thinking about how and why Brady continues to compete for championships nearly every year of his career while Rodgers gets so close yet has just one Super Bowl ring to show for what many call a Hall of Fame career.

The comments made by the 37-year old quarterback need to open Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy’s eyes as well. For the Bears, while Rodgers may not be a realistic option to trade for this offseason, his departure from the NFC North could represent an opportunity for the Bears to at least compete for the division in 2021.

A lot can change in the NFL in just one year’s time. While those who love the Packers are willing to bet Rodgers will be back in Green Bay in 2021, nothing in this league is guaranteed, so Rodgers’ comments could mean something or they could mean nothing at all.
