Chicago Bears: How recent quarterback moves impact the Bears’ offseason
By Ryan Heckman
With Dwayne Haskins signing in Pittsburgh, do the Chicago Bears cut them from their worries?
Thursday, former first rounder Dwayne Haskins found a new home with the Pittsburgh Steelers. After a Wildcard exit, the Steelers had a lot of soul-searching to do — and one particular guy has a decision to make.

Starter Ben Roethlisberger has one year left on his contract, but will he decide to call it quits like his former draft mate Rivers? There were plenty of signs in 2020 that should lead us to believe Roethlisberger has to call it a career, but he’s not so sure he’s done.
Following the playoff loss to Cleveland, Roethlisberger had this to say:
"“A lot of praying. And then, you know, a lot of talking with my family, discussions, decisions. And, you know, I still have a year left on my contract. I hope the Steelers want me back, if that’s the way we go. There’ll be a lot of discussions, but now’s not the time for that.” (NBCS Pro Football Talk)"
There is no decision set in stone, but the Steelers may think they want to try a reclamation project with Haskins. Coach Mike Tomlin has had his fair share of characters in recent years with Antonio Brown and most currently, JuJu Smith-Schuster. Is he truly ready to handle another potential distraction?
Maybe the Steelers signed Haskins as a backup plan if Roethlisberger retires, or maybe they strictly want him as a backup quarterback in general. Regardless, they’ll have to jump a few spots ahead of the Bears if they want to get themselves a first-round quarterback this year; they currently pick 24th.
What may have seemed like just a few quarterback-needy teams prior to the 2020 season now looks like it could end up being quite a few, Pittsburgh included.
