Chicago Bears 2021 Mock Draft: A big trade up saves Ryan Pace
By Ryan Heckman
With the 148th selection overall, the Chicago Bears take offensive tackle Brenden Jaimes out of Nebraska.
The Bears did not have a fourth rounder coming into the draft and after trading their third-round pick in the deal for Wilson, won’t pick until the fifth round. But, this is where they finally start filling out the needs on offense.
In the fifth round, the Bears get a value pick here with tackle Brenden Jaimes, who could end up challenging for a starting spot. Chicago needs immediate competition for Charles Leno and Bobby Massie, and going after a Big Ten offensive tackle is never a bad idea in a situation like that.
The biggest battle for Jaimes going into the NFL is becoming a bit more agile. Some outlets have him best suited as a guard, but he’s experienced at tackle and the Bears need a tackle. Jaimes is a powerful player, which is a positive. He will just have to work a little more on his ability to move laterally if he’ll eventually succeed as a starting tackle in the NFL.
In the run game, Jaimes is able to get strong movement. He’s a physical blocker in the run game and knows how to finish, which is always necessary when looking at translating to the NFL.
