Chicago Bears should explore these trades for Jets’ no. 2 pick
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears could win big in this deal
There is a lot to unpack with this one, and before anyone shoots it down, allow a simple explanation. Let’s start with the picks.
The Bears, once again, would not just be coming home with the second overall pick. They would get the Jets’ fourth rounder, once more. On New York’s side? They get a haul.
The Jets would get the Bears’ first rounders this year, next year and in 2023. They would also get a fifth-round pick this year and a third-round pick next year. In addition, Robert Quinn would be sent to the East coast Beyond anything else, the Jets get five picks in this deal with three of them being firsts.
As for the Quinn aspect, it’s a win for the Bears because they can get rid of his contract and free up space to re-sign Allen Robinson, first and foremost, along with maybe spending on a couple additional free agents.
To be clear, Quinn did sign a 5-year deal with the Bears, however the Jets would have the ability to get out in 2022 with only a $9 million dead cap hit and while saving $40 million against their cap over the next three seasons. It truly isn’t that terrible of a contract for the Jets to take on, considering they have the cap space to do it — plenty of it, in fact.
The Jets also only registered 31 sacks last year (league leader was 56). Under Saleh, who is defensive-minded, you never know whether Quinn could see a resurgence. But, in the end, it’s not about him. It’s about that haul of picks.
