Chicago Bears should explore these trades for Jets’ no. 2 pick
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears don’t have to fully mortgage the immediate future
This first trade scenario is pretty black and white. Under Ryan Pace, the Bears have a history of executing trades featuring draft pick swaps with Chicago ending up at least getting an additional pick — even if it’s later.
If you look back at the Khalil Mack trade, the Bears even received one of the Raiders’ future second-round picks in that deal. The least you could say is that Pace found a way to not be cheated out of all of his picks, right?
In this deal, the Bears would get that coveted no. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft, but they would also net a fourth rounder this year — a pick they are currently without. In exchange, the only draft pick they give up this year is their no. 20 pick.
Next year, though, they will be sending their first-round selection along with a third rounder to New York. In the year after, the Bears give up their third first-round pick in as many years. But, if this pick pans out as many think it will, Chicago finally has their franchise quarterback — and this time, Pace better take the right one.
This year’s draft all of the sudden looks much mor enticing, too, beyond that second overall pick. The Bears will then pick in every round in the draft. It will be the following year where they’re strapped for capital, but this year looks promising, and this is the offseason that matters the most right now.
