Chicago Bears: 5 impulsive trades to quickly fix quarterback position
By Ryan Heckman
Trade 5: The Chicago Bears partner with a division rival
The last trade Pace could try and pull off is with a divisional rival, the Detroit Lions. This offseason, many things could end up changing in Detroit. For a while now, they have failed to get over the hump and have rarely seen the postseason.
Despite having a very good franchise quarterback in Matthew Stafford, Detroit’s front office has not done enough in terms of surrounding him with the right talent — primarily when it comes to giving him a defense.
There are rumors of Detroit potentially blowing things up this offseason and starting fresh with going after a new quarterback either this year or next, and trading Stafford. One of the best fits is obviously Chicago, whom already has a strong defense and a team that could definitely win right now.
Stafford knows the NFC North well, of course, and would be no stranger to playing against the Packers and Vikings. Also, obviously having knowledge of the Lions’ personnel helps in the immediate future.
He would give the Bears a quarterback who is no stranger to throwing it down field — something the Bears have lacked for a while now. He’s great with the deep ball and is as tough as they come. He’d fit in perfectly with the Bears, quite honestly.
Stafford would take the Bears to one of the NFC favorites as early as this coming season, and could end up being the guy who saves Ryan Pace’s job after all.
