Chicago Bears: 5 impulsive trades to quickly fix quarterback position
By Ryan Heckman
Trade 4: The Chicago Bears move up even higher in this year’s draft
Right now, the chatter surrounding Ohio State’s quarterback Justin Fields is somewhat split. After such a strong game in the College Football Playoff Semifinal, Fields and the Buckeyes struggled against the Mighty Crimson Tide — as do many quarterbacks, though.
A lot of mock drafts have the aforementioned Wilson going before Fields, but when draft time rolls around and we get a chance to see him at the Combine, plus going back through his entire tape, I think Fields ends up being the second quarterback off the board, just as he had been projected all season long.
With that said, this is another trade Pace could consider with the Falcons. This time, though, the Bears get the youngster and the Falcons hold onto Ryan a bit longer.
The Bears would trade their biggest haul yet with a pair of first-round picks, a third rounder this year and a fourth rounder next year — all to put their future hope in Ohio State’s gunslinger.
While some have questioned whether Fields is ready for the NFL, I think he’s shown more than enough already that he can come up big in certain moments. His mobility gives offensive coordinators that extra dimension which is so prevalent in today’s league, and his arm talent is absolutely good enough to impress as a pro.
Under Nagy, and surrounded (hopefully) by the right playmakers, Fields would be more than sufficient to lead the Bears in the coming years — especially when given that defense in Chicago.
