Welcome to the most pivotal offseason of the last decade for the Chicago Bears. Just a few days ago, we heard the organization’s leadership in the team’s end-of-season press conference, and let’s just say fans weren’t exactly inspired by the outcome.

George McCaskey and Ted Phillips stated their confidence in general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy, but didn’t give many concrete reasons why both will be kept around. The word “collaboration” was used about two dozen times, but nothing equaling wins came out of the words we heard.

Pace and Nagy did not receive contract extensions, but they are still here and they get one more shot, apparently. Pace, in particular, should be viewing this offseason as the most crucial of his young career. If he wants to stay in Chicago long-term, Pace has to get the quarterback position right this time.

Having three previous opportunities to fix the quarterback issues, Pace has swung and missed with Mike Glennon, Mitchell Trubisky and most recently, Nick Foles — the latter who will stick around as a backup or bridge, most likely.

This offseason, Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace has to swing for the fences.

But, in order to keep his job and ensure the Bears are competitive once again, Pace will have to make a move this offseason. He can’t stick with Foles and expect better results, and he certainly can’t re-sign Trubisky.

It’s time for a big move — and impulsive one, if you will. It’s going to take the kind of move that you’d call a risk; one that is made out of a sudden blitz of urgency within the organization. There has to be an urgency to win now, and if Pace is going to get his team there, it will take a big move at the quarterback spot — maybe one like the following five trades.
