Chicago Bears: McCaskey, Phillips spew 3 significant lies in presser
By Ryan Heckman
Lie Number 3: The Chicago Bears care about Allen Robinson
The Bears are pretty close to allowing one of their very best players to walk out the door, only this time it’s not the oft-injured Alshon Jeffery. This time, it’s a 1,200 yard receiver who caught over 100 passes this last season and has absorbed roughly 30 percent of the team’s receiving over the past three years.
Pace was asked about the situation with Robinson and his impending free agency, the franchise tag, etc. His response was a total, bold-faced lie.
Look, this is a hot take. These are strong words. But, they’re 100 percent truthful. If Pace really felt positive about keeping Robinson around, he would have gotten a deal done prior to the season.
Robinson said on a radio show recently that he felt the Bears had their chance to lock in an extension. It sounded as though he was already gone.
Should the Bears decide to use the franchise tag, Robinson could play hardball and suddenly the Bears are in a tough situation. What’s going to happen with Robinson’s future in Chicago? Does he have a future in Chicago?
Who knows at this stage, but the Bears caring deeply about Robinson and his being in Chicago is such a silly thought. That’s not true. Pace failed to put his money where his mouth is. That ship has sailed.
