Chicago Bears: McCaskey, Phillips spew 3 significant lies in presser
By Ryan Heckman
Chicago Bears fans should be furious over the state of the franchise.
Wednesday morning, the Chicago Bears held what fans had hoped could be a monumental press conference, only to be disappointed. Actually, reports came out Tuesday night of what would end up happening, so there was far from much surprise during the presser.
First up, we heard from George McCaskey, then followed by Ted Phillips. After Phillips, general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy had their time. But, let’s focus on McCaskey and Phillips for a bit, shall we?
The Bears are coming off of another season which could be defined by no other term than mediocre. That’s what they were in 2019 and what they were once again in 2020. A record of 16-16 over two seasons doesn’t exactly have the bright, airy scent of hope attached to it.
In fact, most of the fan base had grown sick and tired of what leadership had been putting on the field and were calling for heads to roll. Towards the beginning of this press conference, McCaskey mentioned such a sentiment.
He talked about an email he received from a season ticket holder which ended by stating, “fire someone.” This season ticket holder was most of the Bears’ fan base by the end of the season. There was no chance the Bears could roll the exact same cocktail of knuckleheads out there again in 2021, was there?
Unsurprisingly, McCaskey proved otherwise. He announced that, while they weren’t receiving contract extensions, both Pace and Nagy would return for the upcoming season.
Throughout their time speaking to media, both McCaskey and Phillips sounded like a grade school boy trying to slither their way out of a lie they told to mom and dad. Only, in this instance, the fans were the ones being lied to. These two are dead wrong on three key aspects within the franchise, and here’s what they had to say.
