Chicago Bears: 5 big questions after press conference
Should you have any hope for the future of the Chicago Bears?
This is a difficult question, and while fans will always be hopeful for their team, after what we all heard yesterday, it’s hard to feel good about the direction in which this franchise is heading. Despite their statements to the contrary, it is clear this team neither recognizes the changes that have to be made, nor has the temerity to make them.
So they will continue to march down this path hoping, as they have since 1985, that they will fall backwards into a good season, or a franchise quarterback, just as they fell backwards into this year’s playoffs.
They will continue to value friendships and feelings over vision and victories. For as long as they do that, it is hard to have hope that the pieces will magically fall into place.
Many Bears fans were discouraged prior to the press conference, and they, along with many others, were despondent after it.
When I was on active duty, a brigade commander who I had the utmost respect for, once told me something that is relevant here. He said “you can love the Army, but the Army ain’t gonna love you back.” In many ways, I feel like the fans’ relationship with the Bears is the same. We all love the team, but the team doesn’t appear to love us back. If they did, they would not take advantage of our loyalty, knowing full well we will likely support this team no matter how bad they are.
