How can the Chicago Bears be so disconnected from reality?

Interestingly, George McCaskey acknowledged that he knew the decision to bring back Matt Nagy, Ryan Pace and Ted Phillips would be an unpopular one. However, I’m not so sure he appreciated just how unpopular the moves would be.

There were moments during the press conference in which George appeared genuinely taken aback by the Bears media who did a fantastic job of asking tough questions and pressing for answers.

Is it possible George believed he could sell the fans this latest cornucopia of nonsense like he has for years?

Well it sure seems that way when you reflect on some of the comments made during the press conference, which, if read in isolation would have surely led you to believe the whole group was fired.

Consider this gem from Ted Phillips:

Ted conceded they failed in the two most important areas, but assured fans that the “culture” is sound an intact — even though it’s the same culture that enabled Javon Wims and Anthony Miller to get ejected for fighting the same player in two different games. But I digress, if only to avoid getting visibly angry at the thought of how much the Bears ownership takes advantage of its fans’ loyalty.
