Chicago Bulls: Three fitting trades involving Otto Porter Jr.
By Ryan Heckman
2. Otto Porter heads from the Chicago Bulls to the Dallas Mavericks
This second trade scenario has the Bulls sending Porter, along with first-year Bull and journeyman Garrett Temple, to the Dallas Mavericks. This Mavericks team is already dangerous when opposing teams have to deal with Luka Doncic, but adding another scorer like Porter could be that missing piece.
The Bulls would receive guard Tim Hardaway Jr. and forward James Johnson, who was originally drafted by the Bulls over a decade ago now. Both Hardaway and Johnson would act in similar fashion as Porter and Temple did for the Bulls, taking on depth roles. But, the Bulls are fortunate to have their contracts expire after this season as well.
Once again, the deal is based around the fact that Chicago comes away with a draft pick. Chicago is not going to compete this year, but stacking future draft capital is going to get them far in the long run.
The Mavericks now have another shooter in Porter as well as one of those glue guys in Temple who does a lot of the things you don’t see on the stat sheet, but he’s well-rounded. Dallas may have enough to make a run at a title if they are fully healthy.
