Chicago Bulls: Three fitting trades involving Otto Porter Jr.
By Ryan Heckman
1. The Chicago Bulls send Otto Porter to the Miami Heat
The first deal sees the Bulls trading Porter and Denzel Valentine to Miami in exchange for Andre Iguodala, Kelly Olynyk and a second-round pick.
Jimmy Butler was dealing with an ankle injury just about a week or so ago. There is no telling whether or not something like that will come back and linger if he re-aggravates it. So, having some competent depth just in case wouldn’t hurt.
At the same time, the Heat proved last year that they were very deep. This team succeeds first and foremost because of Butler, but secondly because every player that hits the floor within this rotation does their job well. They’re a prime example of a tight-knit team that’s incredibly hard to beat in a 7-game series.
This deal would give the Heat even more depth than they had previously. Andre Iguodala is not the guy he once was, so the Heat aren’t necessarily trading a big name when they see him leave. Getting rid of Olynyk’s contract this year is nice, although both he and Porter are up after this season. Porter and Valentine just give Miami even more depth when it comes playoff time.
The Bulls aren’t losing much here, as Porter would have been gone next year anyways. The second rounder isn’t much, but any and every asset is going to prove valuable with a general manager like Karnisovas heading up the draft.
