Francisco Alvarez is someone that should be someone of interest for the Chicago Cubs.

Trade One:

Mike Puma of the New York Post was one of the first people to report that the Cubs and Mets were in on this dialogue. In the same tweet, he mentioned that the Cubs really like Francisco Alvarez. Alvarez is currently the number two prospect in the New York Mets organization. He plays catcher which might prove to be a position of need for the Cubs as the weeks go along here.

After a long time with the Cubs, they might be moving on from Willson Contreras. He has been in trade rumors all offseason, like Bryant, and they already traded Victor Caratini to the San Diego Padres with Yu Darvish. There has been a lot of change but the catcher of the future needs to come in soon. Alvarez would be a perfect fit in the Cubs system right now.

In that previously mentioned report from Mike Puma, he claims that Sandy Alderson isn’t trading any top prospects. Nobody has to believe that, especially if the Mets see themselves as a World Series champion. Now former Chicago White Sox catcher, James McCann, has signed with the Mets on a rich long-term deal so Alvarez’s spot as the starting catcher might be pushed back a little bit.

Based on how things have gone with Bryant over the past two years, getting a prospect like Alvarez would alone be a win. Adding in Junior Santos would be nice too. He is a right-handed pitcher which is something that every team can add. The Cubs need to be better at developing pitching so adding as many arms as possible are necessary.
