The Chicago Bears lose a once promising wide receiver

Raise your hand if you’ve seen enough Javon Wims to know he should not be on this roster in 2021. That’s unfortunate to think about considering there was a time when Wims seemed like he was on his way to a promising career with the Bears.

Granted his best performances came in either the preseason or late in the year, he flashed some skills on tape and obviously has something you can’t teach — size.

However, this year has been an unmitigated disaster for Wims. On the field, he has struggled to make an impact, and has even had difficulty getting snaps.

Part of that could be related to his play or perhaps it is more intangible than that. Consider what happened during the November 1st game against the Saints at Soldier field in which Wims was baited into sucker-punching Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. Wims was suspended for two games, when in reality he should have been released.

Fast forward four weeks later, and Wims was on social media making more trouble liking a tweet which read “Chicago is where receivers go to die.” Fast forward another five weeks, and Wims was center stage once again against the Saints, this time for dropping a perfectly thrown pass in the end zone in a turning point of the game.

Wims may believe Chicago is where receivers go to die, but he’ll likely be going elsewhere to drop perfectly thrown passes in 2021.
