Does the firing of Doug Pederson impact the Chicago Bears decision?

We are less than 24 hours removed from the Chicago Bears playoff loss to the New Orleans Saints in which the offense managed a measly three non-garbage time points. It came on the heels of another woeful performance against the Green Bay Packers in which the team was playing for its playoff lives.

With the offseason officially upon us, all eyes turn to the status of Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace and whether they will be fired or return for the 2021 season.

Interestingly, one of Nagy’s peers and close friends, Doug Pederson, was fired today by the Philadelphia Eagles. The move comes as a surprise, considering what Pederson had accomplished since arriving to the city of brotherly love.

The Eagles have exactly one Super Bowl win and it came in 2018. The head coach responsible for that win? You guessed it — Doug Pederson. In that season, Pederson went 13-3 and took down the New England Patriots, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.

Since winning the Super Bowl, Pederson has gone 9-7, 9-7, and 4-11 this year. Had he been the head coach in Chicago, he’d have a street named after him, a state holiday declared in his name, and the keys to the city. Instead, he was fired today by the Eagles.

Meanwhile, in Halas Hall, the McCaskey family is having “heated discussions” over what to do with a general manager who has one winning season in six years, 0 playoff win, and has missed on all three quarterbacks he’s brought to the team, and a coach who has gone 8-8 in back to back years after overachieving in 2018.

Clearly, there are different expectations for these two franchises. While the Eagles didn’t like the trajectory of their franchise and made a move just two seasons removed from winning a Super Bowl, the Bears celebrate mediocre results.

Next. One drive spoke volumes about Trubisky. dark

Apparently having consecutive non-losing seasons, and zero playoff wins is so far enough for this regime to keep its job. The reality is fans are asking a valid question today —  how does Matt Nagy still have a job, but Doug Pederson does not? Maybe we’ll get an answer soon.
