The Chicago Cubs and New York Mets make sense as Kris Bryant trade partners.

The Chicago Cubs are having a tough offseason. They have lost some nice pieces by either letting them walk or trading them and it doesn’t seem like they are done. It is no secret that Kris Bryant has been on the trade block for over a year now but it seems like it is going to happen sooner than later. Well, Mike Puma of the New York Post has reported that the Cubs and New York Mets have had a dialogue about the former MVP.

This has to be exciting to read if you are a New York Mets fan. They have had an amazing week so far and adding a guy like Bryant would be a nice cherry on top. Earlier in the week, they acquired Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco from the Cleveland Indians which improves their pitching depth and gives them a superstar bat in the middle of their lineup.

The Mets would be wise to add a player like this. He might not be the MVP that he was a few years ago but you never know if he ever gets 100 percent healthy and repeats a year like that. Even if he is just an above-average player, the Mets would be thrilled by adding him.

The nice thing about Bryant is his versatility. He can play all three outfield positions and third base better than most. The Mets are still a little bit behind the Atlanta Braves for the division so they still have some work to do and adding a guy who can do things like that might be able to help them get there.

As you can see, Puma describes Francisco Alvarez as someone that the Cubs really like. It would make sense that they look for a catching prospect because Willson Contreras might be on his way out as well. If Contreras goes but they have Alvarez there, they would be in pretty good shape for that position.

According to MLB dot com’s list of New York Mets top prospects, Alvarez is their number two prospect. If he came to the Cubs, there is a chance that he would be their number one prospect. Puma’s tweet also says that Mets GM, Sandy Alderson, doesn’t want to trade top prospects. That sounds nice but it doesn’t seem like something that is going to stick for a long time. With their new owner, they have been very aggressive in a lot of ways. Hopefully, if the Mets are able to land Bryant, it is for a fair price because he has been a great Cub so far in his career.
