The Chicago Bears would have a window opportunity to try and take advantage of.

The Chicago Bears were the most confusing team in the National Football League for the year 2020. They started 5-1, then lost six straight games, and then won three of their last four to end 8-8. They are in the playoffs because of the expanded tournament this year but nobody is very confident in their chances of going deep. If they went 8-8 with this bad of a quarterback, how could they do if they added a stud like Watson?

The answer is really good. The defense isn’t as good as it was a few years ago which is a problem but some of that roster can be turned over as well. They are currently the second oldest defense in the entire NFL so there are some positions where we would like to see them get younger. If they do that, they might be able to really take advantage of an elite quarterback.

Of course, there is also the idea that the “wear and tear” on the defense is significant. If the offense didn’t go three and out on every drive, the defense might be sharp all game instead of being on the field for most of it. Adding a guy like Watson would help that cause. This team’s door might be closing but Deshaun Watson would be able to start opening it again.

If the Bears did this, they would still need to make a lot more changes. Plugging in an elite quarterback helps most teams but they need to come up with a plan for whoever it is. The Bears would also need help at the offensive skilled positions along with the offensive line. All of these things might help them become a Super Bowl contender. It feels like something that is highly unlikely but you never know at this point.
