Reason #2: Nickelodeon broadcast to have visual surprises

The main appeal for me, a 90s kid who grew up watching Nickelodeon, is to see how the game will be visually different than a regular broadcast. This short Twitter video that CBS Sports posted gives us a bit of a preview.

As you can see, there are some animations being added to the players’ faces and to the ball when it’s thrown or kicked. I’m not sure if these animations will be shown in real-time, I’d bet it’s more of a flair to add to replays. But still, it will be interesting to see how Nick works in these elements.

Slime is another thing that figures to have a big presence in the game on Sunday. Slime is a staple of Nickelodeon broadcasts, with hosts, guests, and contestants on various shows having the bright green liquid dumped on them from above. Slime will be dumped on Sunday for sure.

Saints coach Sean Payton even volunteered to be slimed after the game if his team won. This is an offer that Nickelodeon will surely accept, but let’s hope the Bears stop it from happening.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the animations and fun stuff can be mixed into an NFL game. I wonder if it will be too over the top to turn off serious sports fans, but I hope everyone will give it a chance. It’s one game and a chance for the NFL to show their fun side.
