Chicago Bears pass on quarterback in this seven-round mock draft
By Ryan Heckman
With two picks in Round 6, the Chicago Bears add to both sides.
This is where the Bears finally add another real running back to the fold. At times, Cordarrelle Patterson looked somewhat effective and I still think Artavis Pierce holds some value for the Bears. However, they have to create some genuine competition for that third running back position (and in this year’s case, it was the backup position).
After Tarik Cohen went out early this season, the Bears had no real backup running back to David Montgomery. There was no compliment, which is why grabbing Demetric Felton in the sixth round would be a great selection.
Felton is another explosive athlete who has experience running routes in the slot in addition to his running back duties. He would give the Bears another weapon to unleash via multiple avenues.
When Jaylon Johnson went down to injury late in the year, the Bears missed him greatly. Drafting Olaijah Griffin won’t immediately solve that problem, but adding more depth at corner is never a bad thing.
This is where you begin to try and take shots on guys who could pan out to be real gems in the late rounds. Griffin is primarily a man cover corner and possesses decent size at 6-feet tall. As a late-round prospect, you could do worse than Griffin, who was named to Pro Football Focus’ All American Second Team.
