The Chicago Bears bolster their offensive line in Round 1 with the 20th overall selection.

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Samuel Cosmi. 1. OT. Texas. player. 57

Over the last month or so of the season, the Bears’ offensive line came together and played much better than it did previously. However, the biggest issues up front still lie at the tackle position.

Their interior actually might be set for next year with how Sam Mustipher and Alex Bars are playing, giving the Bears flexibility once James Daniels comes back. But, the play of Charles Leno and Bobby Massie (before he was hurt) is still concerning.

The premise of this mock is that the Bears stick with Trubisky, so the Bears will be surrounding him with the utmost possible talent and protection if that’s the case. At this point, it doesn’t matter what they’re paying Leno or Massie. The Bears need an upgrade at tackle, and they  may as well cut their losses with the other two.

Samuel Cosmi may end up being their best bet at pick 20 if they’re looking for offensive line help. The 6-foot-7 tackle out of Texas is one of the better offensive linemen in the draft, and will likely go anywhere from the mid-teens to mid-twenties. If Chicago can land him, he very well could slide in immediately as a starter and replace either Leno or Massie.

Cosmi is an athletic tackle who can get to his spots in the second level quickly. In today’s NFL, having an athletic tackle is a huge advantage, especially when it comes to protecting the quarterback against even more athletic edge rushers. He could afford to put on even a bit more weight, but other than that he’s as close to NFL-ready as you can get. Cosmi is a slam dunk at no. 20 overall.
