Going into the near future, the Chicago Bears may hold off on a quarterback switch.

This entire idea will not resonate well for a large part of the fan base. But, looking just a little bit into the future, there is a very realistic possibility the Chicago Bears run it back with Mitchell Trubisky as their starter for the 2021 season.

At this stage in the game, he has at least done enough to warrant strong consideration for the starting gig for one more year. Not everyone believes that wholeheartedly, but it’s a perspective all of us need to take in objectively.

Nick Foles still has two years left on his deal, so unless the Bears can unload that contract in the offseason, he’ll be back. If the Bears do indeed draft a rookie quarterback early on, that guy likely won’t start the season. Nagy would probably throw Foles in there, or at least have an open competition between the two of them.

Is that the best option for this Bears offense? Does that give this group the best chance to score points? Quite frankly, it doesn’t. Unless that rookie quarterback is Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields or Zach Wilson, the Bears are better off counting on Trubisky to start next season — and there’s no chance Chicago lands one of those three, so the options are pretty clear.

The likelihood of the Bears re-signing Trubisky to a 1-year deal, or maybe even throwing an option on in the second year, is gaining steam. Making the playoffs certainly defines their quarterback situation a whole lot more, too.

With that in mind, we look at a recent mock draft for the 2021 class using current draft position for the Bears. In the first round, they’ll be slated to pick 20th overall.
