3. The rookie class now limits the Chicago Bears on a potential future starter

With the Bears looking at a first rounder no earlier than pick 19, they obviously have zero shot at landing any of the top three quarterbacks in this class. The one guy they may get lucky and see fall is Trey Lance, but that’s unlikely.

Thus, they are going to have to look at their second-round quarterback grades and go from there. The two quarterbacks they could land in the second round are Alabama’s Mac Jones and Florida’s Kyle Trask. Only one of them, though, presents a promising future starter, and that’s Jones.

Without getting into too much detail, Jones throws less inaccurate passes and takes less risks. He’s smarter with the football. The Bears should be looking for that kind of quarterback in Round 2, if that’s where they choose to go.

Otherwise, it’s on to the later rounds to try and find a developmental quarterback — which we know doesn’t often work when looking for a future starter. At this point, the Bears are going to be stuck with Trubisky again in 2021 and will possibly even hold off until 2022 to bring in a new quarterback via the draft or free agency.
