1. The Chicago Bears now have no choice but to re-sign Mitchell Trubisky

No matter what happens against the Saints this coming Sunday, the Bears are now in a position where they have to re-sign Mitchell Trubisky. Is he going to be the franchise quarterback everybody wanted him to be three years ago? Absolutely not. But, he’s clearly the only option in the short-term.

After seeing what Trubisky and the offense did over the course of the final few weeks (aside from the game against the Packers), it was easy to buy into the Bill Lazor play-calling and what Trubisky could do with it.

This wasn’t some outer-worldly offense by any means, but it was an offense which focused on the run, first and foremost, followed by getting the guys into a quicker rhythm and pace. The pass plays were well-designed and gave Trubisky the chance to hit open receivers within 10-15 yards of the line of scrimmage — and it worked.

He’s not the answer for the future, but Trubisky still likely remains the guy who gives the Bears the best chance to win right now. Chicago will probably re-sign him to a 1-year deal worth anywhere from $12-$20 million.

The biggest reason why they must re-sign Trubisky? Because of who they are limited to with their first-round (or second-round) draft selection. Trubisky will be a more reasonable option to start than anyone they’ll have a chance at now.
