4. Chicago Bears rumored quarterback target: Tyrod Taylor

Another one of the rumored veterans talked about in the aforementioned piece by WCG, Tyrod Taylor, had one of the weirdest situations in recent memory come about this season. Early in the year, Taylor’s lung was accidentally punctured by a team trainer and his status for that day’s game immediately became “out,” thus launching rookie Justin Herbert into the starting gig.

From there, the rest was history. Herbert lit up the league, becoming one of the best rookie quarterbacks to ever grace the field. Taylor’s job was long gone, no matter how hard Anthony Lynn tried to convince us otherwise after Herbert’s first start.

In 2021, Taylor could once again find himself on a new team. While some think Taylor could land in Chicago, the only way I see that happening is as a backup.

First of all, the Bears would need to decide to firmly move on from Mitchell Trubisky. Second, they would have to find a way to rid themselves of Nick Foles’ contract. Third, they would draft a quarterback who would put Taylor in the same exact situation he’s been in with his last two teams.

Taylor is historically a very careful quarterback who doesn’t turn the ball over much, but he also doesn’t take many shots down field. He does offer you the bit of mobility with his legs, but Chicago might benefit more from going after a guy who can throw it deep instead of playing it safe.
